Man is made to live in closeness with others. But social pressures such as extreme urbanization, hierarchical decisions or externally controlled developments make it easy for us to become alienated from one another. But do we want that? Are we helpless? Or do we have it in our hands? Doesn’t it seem like we are losing more and more of what actually makes us human? Proximity, connection, support or trust. In “SO CLOSE” I raise the question of how we actually want to live together when the mechanism of alienation seems to have us firmly in its grip. From depersonalization to the desire to belong to despair and violence, the protagonists of the piece go through different phases, to then end up feverishly hoping to finally be close – so close.
