Urban Voices

Contemporary Art is said to be a mirror of society. It reflects the beliefs, the way of thinking, the achievements but also the problems and hardships of today. At times, it can also simply reflect a feeling or a notion of our present life style.
Having traveled to many of the great metropole Cities on different continents, I found some profound similarities in those Urban spaces, which inspired me for the piece “Urban Voices”.
All Metropolitan areas offer great opportunities, a big variety of Art and entertainment of all kind.
But despite these advantages, something important is lost.
Passengers pass each other without greeting or even looking in each other’s eyes, without a smile.
As we haste busy through the crowd, we ignore the weakest of the society, that lost their chances or even homes.
We become indifferent and cold towards the hardships and problems in our surroundings, often not even knowing our neighbors, maybe a lonely person that craves for a friendly word?
Driven by the stress to succeed, parents pressure their children with high expectations, trying to forge them into someone who fits in their adult society.
People don’t dare to leave their rooms anymore, trying to flee reality in a virtual world.
Driven by the fast heartbeat of the city, many are looking for short encounters just for their physical satisfaction, being scared of deep long term Relations.
Fear of job loss and financial uncertainty, leads to agression and at times even to crimes. Happiness is being searched in shrill clubbing. Loneliness, in the midst of millions of people is lying like a dark shadow over the cities with a ever growing number of depression and suicide rates.
Seeing and feeling this reality, the question arises to me, why does this happen?
